테디보이 룩(teddy boy look)

1950년대 초 런던의 젊은이들 사이에 유행한, 과장된 스타일의 에드워드룩(Edwaydian look). 풀어 내린 웨이브의 롱 헤어 스타일, 에드워드 재킷, 높고 빳빳한 칼라, 타이트한 팬츠, 앞이 뾰족한 구두 등이 특징이다. 테디는 에드워드 7세(재위 1901∼ 1910년)의 애칭이다.

1950년대 초를 거치면서 그리니치 빌리지와 샌프란시스코에 모여든 작가와 시인들

중심으로 비트세대가 이루워졌다. 이들은 미국생활의 단조로움과 대중문화의 진부함에대해 비판했으며, 평화 마약 섹스 신비주의를 지향하였다.

1950년대 테디 보이와 모즈패션과 같은 영 컬쳐의 출발점은 1950년대 중반 10대를 위한

음악인 롹앤롤에서 보며 엘비스 프레슬리에 의해 보다 폭발적인 붐이 일어났다.

엘비스 프레슬리는 젊은이들의 하위문화(서브컬쳐)의 상징이며 가스펠 블루스 리듬앤블루스

부기 웨스턴등 다양한 장르의 감각의 음악을 담고 있었다.

최소화를 추구하던 모더니스트 농촌의 전통 음악과 민속음악에서 영감을 받은 포키스

흑인음악과 백인음악의 결합을 이루워낸 로커빌리들도 각각의 스타일을 형성하였다.

테디보이는 모즈시대보다 시대적으로 약간 앞선 1950년대 중반에 나타난 현상으로

영국 상류계층의 전통적이고 보수적인 에드워드리안풍의 미국의 주트슈트에 카우보이의

낡은 타이나 악세서리를 첨가함으로써 상류문화에 대한 반항을 풍자적으로 표현하였다.

이들은 남성이 일반적으로 외모나 의복에 관심이 없다는 일반적인 관념을 깨트린 집단으로

이들의 스타일은 무릎까지내려오는 프록코트 하얀 포플린셔츠 복사뼈길이의 팬츠

검정색가죽구두 가느다란 보우타이 자켓의 벨벳칼라로 설명할수있고

머리스타일은 앞머리는 길고 뒷머리는 짧은 duck ass 컷을 하였다

우리는 언제나 외롭다. 항상 외로우면서 세상을 살아간다.
그리고 누군가가 떠나갔을때는 내 자신조차 너무나 외롭다.
그사람이 남기고 간 흔적들을 볼때면 나도 모르게 눈물이 난다.
슬픔때문에 한 인간이 살아온 그시간들을 생각하면 그 인생에 대해서 나는
눈물을 흘린다.
인생이란 죽음인건가.

09fw raf simons에서 아식스의 도움을 받아 런닝슈즈를 선보였다.
콜렉션에서 언뜻 보이는 신발의 정체는 너무나 궁금했고 매력적이었다.
나는 신발을 하나하나 샅샅히 파헤치고 싶었고 어떤 느낌과 감성으로 이신발을 생각하게
되었는지에 초점을 두게되었다.
이신발의 외적으로 가장 중요한 디자인요소중에 하나는 Neoprene(네오프렌) Nylon의 소재를 발워머와 같은 형식을 덧대었다. 왜 런닝화에 뜬금없이 슬리브를 덧댈생각을 하였을까?
런닝화를 라프시몬스의 방식으로 변화를 시켜야 했을때 라프시몬스가 선택한 방법은 트랜스포머를 시켜서 원래 가지고 있던 속성을 아예변화시켜 버렸다.
쉽게 풀어 런닝화 + 슬리브 = 앵클부츠 라는 새로운 공식을 만들었다.
라프시몬스는 가장 소년적인 것들은 소년적이지않게 풀어낸것이다.
런닝화를 트랜스포머시키면 앵클부츠의 모양이 나오게되는 감성은 보편적인 런닝화 마져도 무게감을 실어주었다. 그 무게감은 묵직하며 웅장하다.
그다음 컬러와 무늬를 보면 electric한 핑크와 블루를 블랙에 입혀서 하이테크놀로지한 느낌을 주어 컬로 소재 무늬로 youth culture를 나타내고 있다.
무늬는 전자부품의 어떤면들을 담에 있는 런닝화의 날렵하거나 혹은 미래적인 느낌에
무게감을 더 실어주었다.( 런닝화는 태초에 가장빠르고 테크롤로지하며 신기술의 접목을
디자인으로 또한 나타내주어야한다)

그리고 마지막으로 런닝화는 슈트와 같이 신는다.

Kim Jones 와 Richard Nicoll의 어시던트로 있다가 나와서 카일리 미노그의 크리에이티브팀에서 2년동안 일하였다.
옷에서 킴존스의 영향을 받았다는것과 유사성을 발견할수있다.

왜냐면 파이날로 가기전에 몇년간 지나가는 플랫폼이지.

이 콜렉션에서 무엇에 영감받았어?
디자인을 할때 앞으로의 움직임과 항상 제품의 정성에 대해서 생각한다.

사진은 Naked Lunch라는 제목의 2010ss 패션쇼 였음.
26살 여자이며 RCV를 졸업하였다.
이번 콜렉션은 William Burrough의 1959년의 소설 Naked Lunch 에서 영감을 받았다고한다.
악의적이다 나쁘다 불량스럽다 하지만 아름답다.
린다패로우와 함께하였다는 선글라스는 1991, 데이빗 크로넨 버그의 Naked Lunch
영화 주인공의 눈과도 닮았다.
끊임없이 망각하고 꿈꾸고 마약하고 탐닉하고, 기존의 아름다움과 또다른 아름다움을
옷으로 잘 표현한듯 하였다. 아름답다. 피도 뼈도 금도..

어디서 공부하고 왜 이공부를 하기로 결심하였는지?
나는 Royal College of Art에서 공부하였고, The RCA교 육받은것이 내자신의 디자이너가 되게 정확하게 찾아준것만은 아니다 그러나 내 디자인에는 내 느낌이 중요하다는것을 또렷이 알수있었다.

여러도시의 작업중에 런던으 선택한 이유는?
런던은 지금의 흐림이고, 그것의 창조적인것에 중심에있다. 나는 여기서 헤엄치고있다!

너의 디자인에 지금 영향받는것들은?
조지오웰의 동물농장 , Ralph Steadman의 악한 일러스트레이션과 같은 것이다.
정치는 지저분하다! 밀리터리를 혼합시킨다 동물
George Orwell's Animal Farm. As well as Ralph Steadman's sinister illustration. Looking at 'The politics of the pigs!' which no doubt will have a military twist with the Rankings of animals... and lots of PIGS!

In your own words describe your last collection.
A Russian blend of 'The Master and Margarita' Military attire, and criminal tattoos resulting in architechtural couture.

Describe the moment you realised you wanted to be a fashion designer?
The day my, other started to make me clothes, it was enough for anyone to want to grow up as fast as possible to make my own and escape her evil design clutches...

Who is your all time fashion idol?
Is it bad I just googled fashion idol!? I don't know if i have one specifically. For my design I have millions a day, but I talk myself in and out of fashion idols so I never make up my mind. A personal favourite, but for myself- Margaret Thatcher - all the way.

In a sentence how would you describe your work/style?
Refined chaos.

From the recent S/S 09 shows, which shows were your favorite collections, and why?
Hmmm, i would like to see a male version of the couture collection of Christian Lacroix Givenchy, T-shirt prints from Krizia, Galliano's weirdness and colourful sporrans, Burberry Prorsum, and Lanvin for timeless looks.

Which new designers do you respect and why?
Maria Francesca Pepe, and Fleet Ilya. Reasons being fashion domination with their amazing accessories in what seems like no time at all, that sort of thing demands respect...

If you could go back in time and experience any fashion moment, what would it be?
A fly on the wall in Marchesa Luisa Casati's house would be enough for me... may well not be a typical iconic 'fashion moment'. I'm just fascinated by this female dandy - a complete vintage eccentric!

If you could get any model/ anyone to wear your clothes, who would it be - who is your muse and why?
Josh Beech, he looks like a typical 'English Lad' what more could I say? I bloody love his look...

If you were to shoot your campaign and you could get your dream team of photographer, stylist, and model and do anything you wanted, who and what would it be?
Firstly, I'm thinking winter shoot. Aim: Create actual real magic. Stylist: Tim Burton (if he could be a stylist for a day/night). Photographer: Nick Knight. Models: Josh Beech and Luke Worrall. On sight: Northern lights, North Pole.

Where do you see yourself/your label for A/W 09?
MAN SHOW??? And slowly getting somewhere, feeling like im not, untill..... i am....

Where do you see yourself/ your label for A/W 29?
Couture label!!!

Tell us any anecdotes about the making of your last collection.
I don't remember much as it was all so fast and a blur... I do however remember the nights out more, its like the more 'not allowed' to go out became, the better the forbidden nights of drinking and debauchery became... I still managed to wear sequins 2 days left before the show and I'm vprancing about - no make up, shit hair, and as ever- still inconveniently dressed, sewing like crazy!

If you weren't a fashion designer what would you be?
A Vet with a secret tannery/taxidermist out back...

Gloverall 역사
1890년 존 패트리지라는 아웃도어 의류 제작자가 벨기에 앤트워프에서 생산되던 더플이라는 섬유로 코트를 만들기 시작했다. 1차, 2차 대전 동안 영국 해군이 사용해 널리 알려지기 시작했는데 전쟁이 끝나고 남은 더플 코트를 1951년 글로버올이 사들이면서 사업을 시작했다.
1954년 런던 세인트 폴 성당 뒤에 위치한 공장에서 더플 코트를 자체 제작하기 시작했다.

더플 [duffle]
천의 표면을 작은 구슬 또는 물결 모양으로 처리한 옥나사(玉羅紗)와 비슷하다. 이전에는 많이 생산되어 18세기 무렵에는 영국에서 미국으로 수출되어 외투천으로 쓰였으나 오늘날에는 그 명칭만이 남아 있다.

The word Duffle originally referred to a Heavy Woollen Cloth closely woven for warmth and manufactured in the Belgian Town of Duffel. However over the years it has come to signify a hooded coat with distinctive toggle fastenings which was adopted by the British Navy and used by officers and men of the watch to protect against the biting Atlantic and North Sea winds. The toggles could be unfastened whilst wearing thick gloves, and hoods were carefully designed to fit over peaked Naval caps.

Photographs of servicemen during the 1914 - 18 war show a duffle type coat. Between the end of World War I and the start of World War II the coat was modified into the traditional Naval Duffle.

Gloverall still maintains this Naval link through the Iconic ‘Monty’ and its application to the service highlighted by its namesake Field Viscount Montgomery and is worn by Jack Hawkins in the film ‘The Cruel Sea’. The design of the latter is a replica of the original retaining its characteristic rope and wood toggling, webbing stays and two piece hood.

In 1951 Harold & Freda Morris who specialised in selling cotton, leather, Gloves and Overalls were approached the by the Ministry of defence to help dispose of their surplus supplies of World War II duffle coats. Mr Harold Morris then conceived the name Gloverall.
